What if…
The greatest love started with the greatest love story?
What if…
It was more than just a cold, arranged marriage?
What if…
Joseph had adored Mary all his life, but never thought himself worthy?
What if…
Mary thought that Joseph could never seen her as more than Caleb’s little sister?
What if …
It was nothing like you thought you knew…

A child.
Not his.
Heart broken, rejection burning through him; eating him alive Joseph faces the only option available. Divorce. The thought alone is worse than death.

Alone, everyone convinced she’s a liar and carrying another man’s child.
Sent away, rejected by the only one she had ever loved.
Mary grasps onto the truth that no one else dares to believe…

A love like no other.
But like all truly incredible things, it was fought for, bled for, a love desperate enough to sacrifice everything for the hope of something greater.
Someone greater.
God kindled a romance that would be legendary…that would defy any obstacle in it’s path.
Leading to the birth of the Savior of the World, on A Night Like No Other. . .

A Night Like No Other The true love story of Mary and Joseph edition by Kristin Vayden Religion Spirituality eBooks

Right at the start I want to point out that I would have thought this book would be impossible to write as the passionate five star love story it is.

Historically Mary has been subject to a great many different interpretations by various Christian denominations. I can remember as a child hearing my religion referred to as being "Mary worshipers". Many Christian faiths have simply decided to say very little about Mary. This very delicate situation is one of the biggest reasons why I believed that this story could not be written and published as Christian fiction.

With these objections in mind consider this: how would it be possible to stay within the belief systems of all these different Christian churches? Also how could a passionate romance be written about what is in actuality among the most sacred events in Christianity?

I simply concluded that writing this story could not be done and so decided not to buy the book no matter how inviting the challenge was.

However, I was still curious enough to read the forward by Toby Wilson, Pastor, Trinity Church of the Tri-Cities, Pasco, WA. Could this story possibly get by the pastor of a real Christian church? I just had to know.

Well, not only did pastor Wilson's forward convince me that such a story could be written -- he convinced me that Kristin Vayden had indeed written it and had thus accomplished an almost impossible task. This was something I had to read for myself!

I eagerly bought, "A Night Like No Other", with the best intention of reading it on Christmas Eve -- the best day of the entire year to read this particular novella. Unfortunately, the theme was so intriguing that I just had to take a little peek at the first page. Goodbye good intentions! Once started I couldn't stop reading. Bottom line: I quickly finished the book the day before Christmas Eve. It's not my fault. "A Night Like No Other" is just too good a story to not 'gobble up' in one sitting.

The story as a pure romance.

Without a doubt, "A Night Like No Other" is one of the best romances I have ever read. And here's a really important consideration:

"A Night Like No Other" is a wonderful, heartwarming, superbly written, romance just as it stands. It would be an ideal passionate romance even if it was not about the biblical Mary and Joseph but rather some other Mary and Joseph. Kristin Vayden is simply an excellent romance writer. She knows her craft and practices it well.

"A Night Like No Other" as a Passionate Love Story of Mary and Joseph

As someone with many years of formal Bible studies I found the story to be fully consistent with basic Christian teachings. At the same time I found the narrative to be as emotionally satisfying as Julie Lessman's classic 'edgy' Christian fiction.

"A Night Like No Other" could very well have happened just as the author tells it!

Writing "A Night Like No Other" is a truly remarkable achievement. Indeed, as I was reading the story, I kept thinking that the historical story of Mary and Joseph could have happened exactly as Kristin Vayden tells it. Writing with this degree of verisimilitude meets the Gold Standard in creating historical fiction. This is really good historical fiction.

A little Problem with the Subtitle

I do have to point out that I think the marketing people went too far in using this subtitle:

”The true love story of Mary and Joseph"

Let's be honest here. No one today really knows what truly happened between Mary and Joseph. What is true, in my mind, is that "A Night Like No Other" could have happened just as the author tells the story. (You just have to keep those marketing people in line! BTW: I know that authors usually have no say in picking the titles for their books).

So here's how I would make "A Night Like No Other" perfect in my eyes, at least. Change the subtile, "The true love story of Mary and Joseph," to "A passionate love story of Mary and Joseph". After all, Kristin Vayden's novella does tell a passionate love story between Mary and Joseph.

A Night Like No Other The true love story of Mary and Joseph edition by Kristin Vayden Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.

Luke 130-31 New International Version (NIV)

In a way that no one else has ever shared, Kristin Vayden has captured a personal look not only at the test of faith Mary and Joseph faced, but also at the relationship Mary and Joseph had as they prepared for and delivered the Messiah. I appreciated the love story Kristin told, of the hardship both faced during this time when adultery was a sin punishable by death; of a time when those broken, simple, and humble were used to fulfill the amazing work God had foretold. It is a powerful and beautiful way of looking at the Christmas story through a unique lens in which readers can relate--how God used "real people" to do amazing things.

As a Christian, this story made me stop and think deeply about the level of faith these two possessed to conquer personal fear and societal pressures in order to follow the convictions of their heart and faith. Their faithfulness is a testament to all God will provide if we only stop to listen, to heed his commands, and find strength in knowing He is with us in all things.

Using a mix of biblical details and a level of fiction that helped bring depth to the relationship of Mary and Joseph's love of one another, and their overwhelming love and protection for the baby they were blessed to bring forth, Kristin shared a beautiful story of the strength both showed as they committed to not only one another, but to pushing aside the fears of the world in order to trust in the Creator. This is the Christmas story told in a way not one else ever has, a story that is not to be missed!

May this reading be a blessing to you!
*I was gifted an ARC for my honest review.
Absolutely remarkable. Thank you for taking the time to inspire others with your gift. I enjoyed reading this amazing love story.
...and not only does it read like real life, it's accurate in accordance with Biblical truth.
It's a short book but a real tear jerker! Reading the story in the bible can become familiar & I forget that Mary & Joseph were real people part of the plan of God... I'm not saying it's a replacement for the biblical account, but it will help you see it with fresh eyes! Very well written & the love Joseph has for Mary is so real & sweet, I highly recommend!!!!
This book is about the true reason we have Christmas and is a great reminder of that. Even though I already know the store of Mary and Joseph, I still had so many emotions reading this and even felt broken during a certain section. I love that Kristin took this story and expanded on it. Giving it more details, making it more personal.
Words can not describe how great I think this book is. I was truly touched, if I could give it more than 5 stars I would.
This is by far the most touching Christian- related story I have read.

As a Christian, I know the basic story when Jesus was born. Kristin, however, went deeper into details on the story of Joseph and Mary. It was an eye- opener and the story had truly left a mark in my heart. I was very into the story that I even shed tears during Mary and Joseph's test of faith.

This story is so good and I will definitely recommend this to my friends!
This book was a beautiful read, perfect for Christmas time. Kristin Vayden takes the Christmas story of Christ's birth and puts you there in Bethlehem.

The story follows Mary and Joseph, focusing on their growing relationship. It was so great to see them humanized and brought to life in a way that you related to them. Scripture is narrative, a story about Jesus. Kristin Vayden takes that narrative and creates a dialog. Plus, she keeps super close to the actual biblical text, which I greatly appreciated. She also took into the cultural and historical events of the time.

If you're looking for a sweet romance with a Christmas theme, I highly recommend this one.
